Srinagar, Mar 20: Tariq Hamid Karra, former PDP member who recently joined the Congress, on Monday described his fight in the parliamentary by-polls as “Jihad for stopping fascist forces from making inroads into Jammu and Kashmir”.
“When Islam is under threat, it is a duty of Muslims to do jihad. Stopping fascist forces from making inroads in Jammu and Kashmir is jihad for me,” Karra said, while addressing a gathering of NC-Congress supporters at Nawai Subh complex in Srinagar.
“I am a Mujahid, as I want to defeat the anti-Muslim parties. Those who have united to support the NC-Congress candidates are doing Jihad.”
Karra, the former PDP leader who successfully contested the 2014 parliament elections against Dr Farooq Abdullah, said that he would fully support the candidates of NC and Congress in the upcoming parliamentary by-polls.
“We have to defeat PDP, which has joined hands with the BJP-RSS for forming the government in the state,” he said.
“The PDP won the previous elections on the promise to stop the BJP from entering into JK. Once elections were over, Mufti Sahab (Mufti Mohammad Sayeed) backtracked from his promise and formed government with the BJP.”
Karra, who resigned from Srinagar Lok Sabha seat in September last year, alleged that “brutalities” were being committed on the protesters in Kashmir.
He said he had asked late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed not to form alliance with the BJP.
“I told Mufti Sahab that all secular parties have to get united and strengthened to stop BJP-RSS from entering into JK. But he did not pay any heed to me and formed unnatural alliance with the BJP. The PDP housing is now burning and I left the party to save myself from the fire,” Karra said.
He claimed that Mufti preferred chair over nation and formed government with the RSS.
“The RSS had also supported the British during the freedom movement,” he added.
