43 govt schools show 0% results in Class 10 exams

Srinagar, Jan 13: Forty-three government schools in Kashmir showed zero per cent results in the annual matriculation examination the results of which were declared by the J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) on Tuesday.
In the board results, Srinagar has seen the maximum number of schools registering zero per cent results in the 10th class exam with 13 such non-performing schools in the exam from the district, data compiled by the JKBOSE have revealed.
The data have said that a meagre 46 candidates only from the non-performing schools in Srinagar had appeared in the exam.
Besides Srinagar, 9 schools each from Anantnag and Baramulla districts have failed to open accounts in the matriculation exam as per the data.
While 7 schools in Kupwara district witnessed 0 per cent results in the board exam, Bandipora and Pulwama districts have two such schools each.
With a single school in central Kashmir’s Budgam district not performing in the exam, the data has said that Ganderbal, Kulgam and Shopian districts have no schools, which obtained zero results.
Besides as many as 112 government schools in the valley obtaining less than 20 per cent results, 49 of them did not score even in two digits with 49 government schools obtaining less than 10 per cent results, the data has revealed.
To fix the said non-performing schools in the board exam, the School Education Department would “find the root cause” rather than giving a “knee-jerk reaction,” Minister for Education, Syed Altaf Bukhari told The Kashmir Monitor.
Additionally, the department, Bukhari said, has “already instituted an enquiry” into the matter.
“See, there is not just a single reason for the zero per cent results. It is not like the teachers have not taught the students…There must be something wrong at the grassroots level,” the minister said.
To look for the reasons, Bukhari said that they have asked Kashmir University to “undertake a research” in this regard.
“We can suspend the concerned teachers in a moment, (but) insha Allah you will see there would be no knee-jerk reactions,” Bukhari added.
