Srinagar, May 16: A rifle was snatched from a policeman posted at the University of Kashmir at Hazratbal on Wednesday. Reports said that some unknown persons overpowered a policeman posted at the Rumi Gate of the varsity and fled with his rifle.
After the incident, searches have been launched in the area to nab the assailants.
Confirming the incident a senior Police officer said that the police has launched investigation to ascertain the case.
The former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in a tweet said, “They are even snatching rifles outside Kashmir University now. It doesn’t look like any place in Kashmir is safe any longer.”
Meanwhile, militants also attacked an army’s patrolling party in Tral forests of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Official sources said that a group of militants opened fire on the army’s 42 RR near Shikargah forest area at around 8:30 am.
The army men retaliated to the fire. However, there was no immediate report of any casualty on either side.
Soon after the attack, the additional reinforcement was rushed to the area and the whole area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers.
When contacted, SSP Awantipora Zahid Malik confirmed the incident and said that police is verifying the details.
